I get your point, Ms. Tardy, but any all-Black school staffed by all-White teachers that genuinely produced good grades would ALREADY be aware of the problems inherent in all-White staff.

And any respectable educator would know that. Do they think good grades come in a vacuum?

Those superintendents were not asking in good faith. they were trying to assuage their white guilt.

She's mentioned AI's bias only once and doesn't seem to recognize that the AI bubble is a thing, and seems to believe AI is more than a fad.

AI does not necessarily equal tech, Ms. Tardy.

Okay, he's less of an asshole now with the context of paying off his daughter's financial difficulties, but it was still a bad thing for him to say. Not just a good example of "different lived experiences".

If he really understood the struggle of young adults starting out, he'd be willing to fork out more for your salary.

I get what you're saying, but asking you if you can "just ask your parents for money" to cover the bills is insulting regardless of race.

It also speaks of an inherent capitalist laziness and refusal to pay people what they're worth. And a lack of concern for the next generation.

It's naive to think our capitalist hellscape could EVER allow workers to "bring their whole selves" into the workplace, something I learn more and more each day.

But otherwise this book is good.

And she does have a point about the narrative of White majority, non-white minority narrative.

You shouldn't need to remind yourself that a member of a historically oppressed group is a person. Or society around you.

We don't go referring to women as "people of the female gender" to remind us that women are people, no? Anyone who did that would rightly be castigated as a misogynist.

Then you are already too far gone to be reasoned with.
