I would have preferred an ominous, foreboding end. This one felt a little abrupt and almost detached from the story, but I did like the concept.

"No, I won’t tell you what she said to me, either. But I am not ashamed to say I wept."

"I won’t tell you about what I found. I won’t tell you what I saw when I walked into the kitchen (...). I will not tell you what he said to me, only that I had to give the maid a sedative before I could lead her from the little girl’s corpse."
I hate that. It just feels like lazy writing. Tell this horrible thing, bc otherwise I just assume you were worried nothing you would right could live up to the horror implied

I have seen the word penumbra used twice in my life, and in both cases it was by this author.
I suppose if I continue reading her works, it'll eventually become a common word in my vocabulary.

Never mind, I think I know exactly where this is going, and if so I fk with it
Think the revolt of Sid's toys in Toy Story, but with a necromancer twist.
I love a good example of bad karma coming back around.

I wonder where this is going.
I almost feel bad for the king, who really does ask for so little, but unfortunately sired a monster.
