I'm enjoying this story, but something is off about the flow. It brings to mind Charlaine Harris' Harper Connelly series, though I'm not sure why. (Similar tone?)
A quick scan of a page reveals an awful lot of "I" statements, but that's minor. Maybe it's too much direct action/description; not enough showing and too much telling?

Wow. Not getting any better. There are likeable elements, but the execution of those elements are really rough. This book should have been workshopped before publishing.
