I'm enjoying this story, but something is off about the flow. It brings to mind Charlaine Harris' Harper Connelly series, though I'm not sure why. (Similar tone?)
A quick scan of a page reveals an awful lot of "I" statements, but that's minor. Maybe it's too much direct action/description; not enough showing and too much telling?
