Part 7 spans from page 634 - 701. It doesn´t look good for the Rostov family. Old count Rostov have problem with the business. He have never been a good trustee of his wife´s fortune and have began feeling guilty for his deficient behavior. Natasja is longing for her wedding and is missing her fiance Andrej Bolkonskij who have went abroad for 1 year. It is the first time she are feeling hopelessness and sees a ugliness in the world (very interesting development). And finally wife Rostov is mad about Nikolaj who chose poor Sonja as his wife. She had been on him a lot about marrying wealthy Julie Karagin considering their Rostovs poor economic situation but instead left her son mad, and their relationship in sour conditions.
This was a slower part with us only following the Rostovs and gave me a question I have been brooding about. Is Tolstoj going to succeed with the length or have he made it to long? Will it be enough pace this second half or will it be dull? I have only read 50% can he still keep my attention and love for the characters and world? With this said part 7 is still very good. It is just interesting to see if he can keep this up for another 900 pages.
