Really digging this, love that it reads like a collection of small and somewhat self contained stories (it reminds me a little of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, probably my favorite Narnia book as a child! Obviously very different but the structure is similar)

I've seen a lot of people describe it as "what if Dark Souls was a book," but idk it reminds me more of the video game adaptation of Dante's Inferno

The sort of chained sidequest style is a Buehlman hallmark I really enjoy! I think if you end up liking Between Two Fires and you want to see him lean further into fantasy you should check out The Blacktongue Thief next
