hummm... interesting. im enjoying this better than i remember from last week. its probably still going to be a 3 stars, but ill read the next one. besides some strange victorian-man-swooning-at-an-ankle behavior, the romance part is fun.

birthday dinner celebration? cute. kidnapped child that i like? not cute. srsly, child violence of this sort is too serious for a book like this, the vibe is all over the place. will probably have to alternate with a different read to get through this.

I'm glad you mentioned that so I don't add it to my TBR."tbh it's not very explicit and children are victims of crimes, of course, but the theme of the crimes investigated in this volume clearly is violence against children. i enjoy priest's writing a lot and so far it's been ok for a crime novel, so i'll continue on reading, but if you don't like that, it's pretty unavoidable in this one
