500 pages has rarely felt so long, not that its bad, but it certainly feels a tad over-indulgent, despite it having got style.

After a large slow segment, this reveal (which I feel silly for missing up unto this point) has definitely given me a surge of interest and enjoyment. I'm hoping it maintains some pace for a bit now - this book is fucking massive and I really want it to keep earning it's time commitment.

China is a phenomenal writer, and I am very hooked by the mystery here, but I need this to pick up a bit because these past 100 pages or so have felt very slow and over-indulgent. I'm only 1/3 of the way through, so I'm sure it'll get there, but it's starting to crawl now.

I wish I could be giving this more time, because I am adoring it, but it's really dense, heavy and progress feels slow when having to juggle so many other books.

I feel as though everything I thought I knew about this book (so far) has been wrong in the best and most satisfying way. What an experience this has been already - and I'm only a fraction of the way through it!
