Also, FL and ML are on relatively equal footing, and there is zero indication that there will be any horrendous abuses of power anytime soon.

We've seen enemies-to-lovers setups involving Character X be generally condescending towards Character Y, Character X drugging Character Y and forcing intoxicated! Character Y to give him a lap dance, Character X straight-up bullying and sexually harassing Character Y...

It's not going to be my FAVORITE enemies-to-lovers setup, but so far, neither the FL nor the ML has done anything unspeakable to the other yet.

Although I personally find Wells's thinly-disguised snobbery to be irritating as a motive, I must admit that as far as enemies-to-lovers scenarios goes, it's a lot more tolerable than others I've scene.

I mean, we've seen setups where Character X is LITERALLY part of a police/military force persecuting/committing hate crimes against Character Y.

Wait, if Llewellyn isn't selling actual magic items, then what's the point? Didn't he come to Graves Glen to set up what he considers a 'real' shop for witches?

How he is any different from the 'plastic' witches he so despises in Graves Glen if he's not selling real magic?

Gwyn has a point. He is literally encroaching on her turf.

We do like that Gwyn is bi, though. Gwyn still doesn't rank as one of my top ten heroines in fiction, but she's not near the bottom, either.

She still comes across as kind of irresponsible, tho.

Wells showing up at the bachelor party is admittedly hilarious-hilarious enough to get over the prologue.

Gwyn's still not my favorite heroine, but it would be unfair to really hate her because let's face it, we've seen worse.

I mean, Gwyn is, after all, self-sacrificing and seems to have developed a more realistic view of her own abilities since her college days.

In retrospect, considering that Gwyn is an actual witch getting her ghost-hunting cues from IN-UNIVERSE works of fiction (that reference to the show Supernatural), the too-cool for magic school attitude she displayed in the prologue is a bit more grating than it should be.

She's probably intended to come off plucky and humorous, but the real effect is that Gwyn looks incompetent and arrogant.

Also, falling into Fourth Wing's trap where we use the male lead as the deliverer of consequences for our heroine's less-than-perfect behavior.

Which is kind of...smells a bit misogynistic.

She ends up suffering consequences for her lack of concern for others by having someone ELSE humiliate her by cleaning up her mess.

Unfortunately, that person is also her love interest, the super-rich and powerful wizard Llweylln. You know, I don't think I appreciated Something Fishy about My Boyfriend's rare instance of the power imbalance being tilted in the FL's favor until now.
