Doing my first-ever full-series reread. It's been...years since I've actually read WOK, though I still have a pretty encyclopedic knowledge of its major events. What I'd forgotten: the incredible satisfaction of each incremental step as Kaladin wins the trust of Bridge 4. There's something about his persistence against the odds that warms my heart, just as it brings the bridgemen to trust him.

I couldn't get behind Kelsier's hatred of the nobility, but I understand why Kaladin loathes lighteyes now. And they deserve it. Assholes.

I was so worried that Kal was going to be another Kelsier, but he isn't - he differs on one very very very crucial point.

HALFWAAAAAAAY! Also, words cannot express how much I love Jasnah, and how glad I am that she's not a strawman atheist.

I recently started rereading this for Rhythm of War, and I felt the same way! There's just something so powerful about each tiny little victory. It's still one of my favorite parts about the story.

As someone who reads fantasy partially just because of the setting, one of the main thing that keeps me interested through the beginning of his books is just curiosity about the worldbuilding. That, and knowing that there'll be an epic climax that's well worth the wait.
