The language used sounds pretty authentic for the teen protagonists and uk setting (criiiiiinge). All I expected is fluff and that is what I’m actually getting, so fine by me.

‘And your problem is that you can’t bear to act normal, because when you take away your ugly clothes and all the long words and all the wacky shit that you think makes you different, you’re actually left with not much – just a girl with a serious personality disorder.’

I can vividly remember my younger self (yet to find out she’s ace) viscerally shiver with disgust over the shagging chapter. The last book I’d read that had explicit sex scenes, was The Unbearable Lightness of Being, where they provided characterisation rather than being there for the indulgence. I know, different genre. Well at least this was sex-positive, I guess? My personal reference remains detached approach

“My hand snaked under the duvet and I’d barely got it inside his shorts before Michael groaned, like the other groan had just been the warm-up act, and it was game over. Move it along. Absolutely nothing to see here. I tried my hardest not to ‘Ewww’ as I carefully removed my sticky hand and held it in the air so I didn’t get any stuff on the duvet cover.”

I knooow, I said I wanted to read some nonfiction after Karenina BUT my brain is not vibing rn.
I’ve read this ages ago, don’t remember much other than it being okay? and a bit awkward (in a cute way), however, I didn’t anticipate this amount of cringe tbh. And I’m not a fan of the tacky descriptions of characters alà wattpad circa 2012.
