i've read the whole series multiple times and love it, it's one of my favs!🤣 may i ask why you're not planning to read the other books?

Dan sleeps with A LOT of people in the other books tbh, not just Jean. but with Jean specifically, it felt more like him cheating on Vadim, since they clearly had an emotional connection too, but in Dan's eyes it was just "fun". it clearly hurt Vadim too, so that made me even more mad. but i have a very complicated relationship with Dan in general, that man just has no logic sometimes and i've just come to accept that. can't believe that Vadim somehow ended up being one of my favourite characters of all time, and that i always ended up picking his side in the sequels, considering how the whole series started lol.
i get why you don't wanna read the sequels now i guess, even though it pains me a little, since they're still amazing, even though Dan's a little bit of a prick sometimes🤣 (hide spoiler)]

This is the Director's Cut edition! So there's Volume 1 and Volume 2. So all in all, it's still about 800-900 pages lol. I just took a break between volumes to delay finishing it 🤧

The main reason besides the emotional cheating (I really wouldn't care if he was just fucking around, I guess, but I need the actual romance to just involve the MCs), it's that Vadim is also my favorite and I don't want to read about his heartbreak or emotional turmoil due to that whole "side piece" situation lol. I'm kinda intrigued to continue since I don't wanna end my time with the two, but if I start actively disliking a character then I can't enjoy the book as a whole. So i don't wanna ruin the love I have for book one. It's a complicated decision! Do you think the romance (or their version of it) is still worth it? Or should I just stick with the HFN from the Director's Cut? I have been told by quite a few people to just consider it a standalone, but since you love all the books I'm curious of your take.

Also gotta love how I can "forgive" the rape and torture from book one, but emotional cheating is 🙅‍♀️ crossing the line 🙅‍♀️ (hide spoiler)]

I'm bias so I recommend to read the Director's Cut edition: which is Special Forces: Soldiers Part I -Director's Cut and the one I'm reading now. Then you can jump into Special Forces - Mercenaries Part I - Director's Cut and Special Forces - Mercenaries Part II. Finishing with Special Forces - Veterans. For now, I'm only planning to read the last part of Soldiers (this one), since it ends in a HFN and I don't like what I've been told of the sequels.

I kind of liked the ending of part one (chapter 11), sudden bdsm couple popping up and all. And then the scene at the cave... 👀 totally worth it once I picked up Volume Two. Have you read anymore of the series yourself, Rielle?

and my opinion stays the same - the sequels are completely worth all the pain and suffering. you only get to see 9 years of their lives with Soldiers, while if you finish the whole series - you get 17 extra years. they just go through SO much shit both together and separately... i still remember sobbing my eyes out when i finished the whole series for the first time.
BUT if you think hating an mc could potentially ruin the whole series for you - it complicates things for sure, since i'm 99% sure you'd hate Dan in the sequels at times🤣

and i totally get you on forgiving (view spoiler)[the torture and rape, while not being able to get over the emotional cheating (hide spoiler)] lmao i swear my logic is all weird with romance books too.

I'm okay with the extensive comments where you save me the potential book headaches, or at least warn me from all the impending emotional injuries beforehand. All I'm zero-ing on from your comment, however, is the "you will hate Dan at times", knowing how bitter I am, at least when it comes to that particular topic, do you think I would manage to get over it? I don't wanna rage quit when I'm loving book one so much 😭 Writing a negative review would destroy me.

Plus, as long as most of the suffering is not due to that particular topic, I'm more than okay with potential (view spoiler)[further torture, rape, emotional demoralization, obvious PTSD (as if everyone doesn't already have PTSD already lol), and so on. Dubious morality and all. (hide spoiler)]
