Like 60% of this essay is the narrator crying. I find it tiresome and I think it’s just because the conventions in literature written in English aren’t as blatant as “I wailed and cried” all the time. But I guess Chinese people cry a lot or something because this is all crying. It also makes sense though her mother did die lol

哭 is such an unpretty character, I feel like I have such a visceral reaction to it
