reading this again. doesn't hit like the first time. key idea: grit = passion + never give up. i'm not a fan of the first chapter about how talent doesn't replace grit; drags and repetitive.

Chris is a combination of passion and perseverance. You can't go full throttle on something that you are not passionate about. And this passion doesn't necessarily hit you like a ton of bricks, it grows over time as you learn more about it. In order to find what you're passionate about think of back when you're younger when you're a teen and things that captivates you and make you think about a lot. passion, stems from a first time interest, and it requires a lot of babying and only a little bit of criticism because criticism can kill interest. Practice is not enough practice to involve deliberate learning as well. Success comes from a combination of deliberate practice, but also things that are related to that task that is not deliberate. Think of that example with spelling bee champion. There are three activities that is recommended for beers to do, one is being quizzed by family members, one is playing Scrabble, and one is learning the words from the dictionary and study individually. Only one of those activity is deliberate practice, it is the last one.
