reading this again. doesn't hit like the first time. key idea: grit = passion + never give up. i'm not a fan of the first chapter about how talent doesn't replace grit; drags and repetitive.

Aptitude does not matter as much as showing up and making an effort. feels a little repetitive also very distraught that my gritty score is very low

solid 4, debating whether it can go to 5. if you want to improve, you need to set goals and change the way you practice (trial and error). theres a debate between whether mastery is reached in flow state (enjoyable) or in deliberate practice (painful). the answer is both. you have to go through the painful practice to get more flow states often.

you can grow your grit. inside out: cultivate your interests, daily habit of challenge exceeding practice, positive thinking, linking it to a bigger goal. outside in: parents coaches teachers mentors peers.
