This was just one of those books that I felt was written especially for me and me alone. Writers' memoirs are a favourite with me anyway but this has one of the best pieces on writing/being a writer that I've ever read. I also loved the pieces about

| First book of the year. It was a little dense and dry for me in places but when the fog of my confusion lifted I loved the information presented here. | |

| A gift from my friend as I work my way through this first Christmas/New Year after my husband's death in 2025. It's beautifully written and lots resonated with me. I am a writer and have experienced severe writers' block since my husband's funeral so ...more | |

| I wavered between three and four stars and settled for respecting the fact that this is a massively bestselling book since 1936. It is a very short, atmospheric story about keeping the faith when it appears that all else is lost. I absolutely loved t ...more | |

| I'm not sure how I managed this but I finished this book before realising it was a novel. I was mesmerised by the narrator's ability to exist within such a narrow and quiet life without drinking heavily, and then discovered it was fiction. I feel Wil ...more | |

| I first read this book when it came out, over twenty years ago, and I remember roaring with laughter. At the time, I heard about a guy sitting in his car and creased up laughing as he read it. I am approaching the first Christmas since my husband's p ...more | |

| A wonderfully compelling memoir that includes the likes of Mae West and Rudolf Valentino. Flint has a great love for film. Even if you are not a believer in the Afterlife, you could, I think, still be entranced by this book thanks to Flint's exquisit ...more | |

HOpe I'm doing this right, it's my first message on goodreads. I've never read him as I just don't do horror/terror;), and had stupidly put of On Writing for years, even after hearing how good it was, and I must say i thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd read it again and again,I think. And I might even try some of his earlier stuff too, under supervision!! Happy Easter!
Can't say I was ever a great fan of Stephen King, but I loved 'Misery' - it made me laugh out loud, especially the bits about the typewriter falling to bits. (I once had a typewriter that did the same to me after millions of words!) And 'On Writing' was just genius. Still think of it - wish I still had the book. (Probably lent it to someone and never got it back!)
