Former ghost-writer, Pierce published her first book for children in 2011. 'Spirit of the Titanic' received rave reviews and ran to five printings within its first twelve months. In 2018 she wrote the nonfiction 'Titanic, True Stories'. Her second children's novel 'City of Fate' is set during WW2's Battle of Stalingrad. I think, most of all, I'm hoping to inspire a young reader to i) read more books and ii) learn more about history in the general hope that they learn to question things for themselves.

The actual historic subject or context is important to me. I love history and I enjoy researching something and trying to find a way to make it come alive and connect with today's reader. I've just finished my second draft of my third children's novel, about the Siege of Derry, and that was my challenge to bring 1688-9 alive and make it interesting.

But, yes, I'd be lying if I didn't hope that the story would present something more than itself. I'd hope that readers would learn more about themselves and for themselves - if that makes sense.

I was lucky enough to be asked by my publisher to try something about the Titanic and that's how my career began as a children's writer. My ghost-writing experience also proved handy as it was great practice regarding researching and presenting someone's life story ... that is, their personal history. I do have a great love for history - along with English, it was always a favourite of mine in school. So, from the Titanic I went to WWII and then to the siege of Derry. I'm currently working on my battle of the Boyne and it is fair to say that all my ideas, at the moment, for future books are based on episodes/characters from history. I would like to expand to different genres over the next couple of years but, for now, I love researching a complicated story from history and finding a way to present it to the younger reader. Hope that answered your question alright. Best wishes, Nicola(less)

HOpe I'm doing this right, it's my first message on goodreads. I've never read him as I just don't do horror/terror;), and had stupidly put of On Writing for years, even after hearing how good it was, and I must say i thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd read it again and again,I think. And I might even try some of his earlier stuff too, under supervision!! Happy Easter!

Ann Roberts Can't say I was ever a great fan of Stephen King, but I loved 'Misery' - it made me laugh out loud, especially the bits about the typewriter falling to bits. (I once had a typewriter that did the same to me after millions of words!) And 'On Writing' was just genius. Still think of it - wish I still had the book. (Probably lent it to someone and never got it back!)
