Frederic (Fritz) Martin was born in Iowa, grew up in Western New York, and lived and worked in Maine, Idaho, and California, finally settling in Vermont where he now lives and writes. Along the way, he jack-hammered concrete, worked as a mechanic, drove a taxi, delivered papers, rowed dories as a guide on the great western rivers, hitch-hiked everywhere, read a lot, and somehow picked up a college degree in Physics. He married and raised a son and a daughter with his wife Betsy. His very first published work, a short story "Maybe Lake Carmi,” won the Vermont Writer's Prize in 2018. He has since published several short stories and novels. ...more

I started writing fiction for the first time after reading the last book of Suzanne Collins' "Gregor the Overlander" series. I really, really loved that series, but, like "Hunger Games", I wanted a different ending, so I sat down and wrote *gulp* a fanfic! And I really enjoyed writing it! In fact, "Not Alone" started out as a youth novel (like "Gregor") rather than YA.(less)

Forrester who is most famous for his Horatio Hornblower series, but who also wrote a lot of good historical novels including "The Good Shepherd". I want to read a lot more of his lesser-known books. I also like WWII books since my father was a P51 fighter pilot based in Iwo Jima. A good book by one of his squadron mates is "Of War and Weddings" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8....(less)

Review: A Scar like a River

I could say: -The character arcs are pitch-perfect, -Or the emotional beats are spot on, -Or the themes are authentic and beautifully presented, -Or the dialogue is scintillating and age-appropriate -Or the writing is near perfect -Or I could just tell you to go out and read the damn book. P.S. This is not Middle Grade, this is Middle Grade to Infinity. There's a difference. Lisa Graff 4.7/5 stars

Theo of Golden by Allen Levi
"Published in 2023, I selected this book due to the average review for it being incredibly high, one of the closest to 5 stars I have seen. Upon finishing it, I wavered on making this a 2 or 3 star review (since can’t give 2.5) and finally dropped it " Read more of this review »
