ISLAND PRACTICE and Jazz on TV
Thanks so much to WTNH News Channel 8 and Connecticut Style for inviting me and Elliot Honig on to play jazz and talk about Island Practice! http://www.wtnh.com/dpp/ct_style/stag...
We had so much fun! (Plus, after the show, we got to eat the delicious results of the cooking segment: Nutella French toast in vanilla custard.) Looking forward to our May 18th event at an incredibly cool Massachusetts bookstore/cafe/wine bar: The Book Shack. https://www.facebook.com/events/16771...

Excited to be on the Literary New England Radio show, speaking with host Cindy Wolfe Boynton about Island Practice, music, and writing, and the music-and-book events I've been doing. Other guests on the show were Douglas Kennedy, Cathie Pelletier, and Leah Stewart. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/literary...

Island Jazz New York City event!
Here's a link to Caffe Vivaldi's blog post and a snippet of video from the first Island Practice "Island Jazz" gig -in New York City a few months ago. For those of you in the New York area, we'll be performing there again on July 24 and August 28, 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Caffe Vivaldi is a wonderful venue, really a Greenwich Village gem, lovingly tended by Ishrat Ansari, who not only loves artists of all genres, but is the very soul of an artist himself. (Not shown here, but coming soon will be a bit of the conversation with me and the awesome Alicia Anstead, editor of The Writer magazine.)

Island Jazz event on Nantucket!
A very special "Island Practice" literary musical event! Music with me and Nantucket's own fantastic Matthew Hutchinson trio! Conversation with Island Practice's Dr. Tim Lepore! Moderated by Georgia Urbano Raysman of The Nantucket Chronicle! Maybe Dr. Lepore will play a solo on one of his hand-carved obsidian scalpels (perhaps on the song "I've Got You Under My Skin" :)
Wednesday, August 21, 8:30 p.m. at Arno's, 41 Main Street, Nantucket. Food and drink too.

Island Practice on NPR's WBUR Arts Blog
NPR's WBUR 90.9 FM has a beautifully rich and exciting arts blog called The Artery, run by Ed Siegel. Today they have a lovely piece by Coralie Kraft about Island Practice that also includes some video of one of our musical literary events, and a mention of our upcoming Island Jazz gig https://www.facebook.com/events/54103... on Nantucket with the Matthew Hutchinson trio, Georgia Urbano Raysman of the Nantucket Chronicle - and the inimitable Dr. Lepore. Thanks so much to The Artery for this great piece and your uniquely wonderful site for all things related to the arts!

Island Jazz on Nantucket!
Trying to think of thematically relevant tunes to play at our August 21 "Island Jazz" gig on Nantucket. Since Island Practice's Dr. Tim Lepore will be there - and since he is a surgeon and tick expert, among other things - I'm toying with "I've Got You Under My Skin." Maybe Dr. L could play a solo on one of his hand-carved obsidian scalpels. https://www.facebook.com/events/54103...
The Island Review
Well, this is a nice surprise: The Island Review, an innovative and visually beautiful online magazine dedicated to all things island, has published a piece I wrote about a floating island. This was before I started working on my book "Island Practice," and it was quite a fun story to do - wonder if the island is still floating around. All you lovers of actual and metaphorical islands, check out The Island Review - I bet you can even suggest story ideas for them. http://www.theislandreview.com/an-isl...
Literary Reading Literally Makes You a Better Person
I stole that line from Martha Plimpton, who just tweeted it about a piece I wrote - about a study that found that reading literary fiction helps you become more empathetic and improves your emotional intelligence. http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/10...
Read the story and take our quiz.
They didn't look at narrative nonfiction, the genre of "Island Practice" - I'd love to know what they'd find if they did.
