I was always cynical about people who claim that the best thing about what they do is finding that it makes a difference in someone's life.
But then I started receiving letters and emails thanking me for making a difference. Since then, my cynicism has gone into hiding. Actually, I was embarrassed to find just how satisfying it is to learn that that someone has benefited from what's inside my head. It's a wonderful connection kind of thing that I haven't been able to satisfactorily describe. But I'm working on it. (less)
