Brandon Varnell is a writer. The end.

... Just kidding.

Brandon Varnell is the author of several book series, all of which involve anime-inspired fanservice. Having been an anime nerd for basically his whole life, his books tend to reflect that. He likes writing stories with loads of T&A, shonen-style battle scenes, and steamy romances that are both light-hearted and erotic. He is also a huge fan of harem anime, so most of his books feature harem romances. If that bothers you, you probably shouldn't read his books.

I've always been fascinated by the way the Japanese media tells their stories in anime and manga, and after watching several Rom-Coms overflowing with ridiculous amounts of fan service and slapstick humor, wanted to try my hand at making a story composed of tropes found in Japanese pop culture but with a Western setting.

The idea to use Yokai--and Kitsune in particular--actually came from Japanese mythology. American novels based on mythology have a tendency to be about Greek or Roman mythology. I know a few that are also based on Hindu mythological figures, but it's mostly Greek... and sometimes Norse. I wanted to do something different, which is why I came up with the idea of using Yokai instead. This combination is what created the basis for my book series.(less)

I mean, I sort of just started out writing, and I fell so in love with it that I kept on writing and eventually decided to become an author.

I guess, if I had to name a hurdle, it would be dealing with bad reviews. Because I write for a specific genre (harem romcoms with T&A), a lot of people don't like my stories, so I tend to get a good deal of reviews that basically tear my books a new asshole. They hurt a lot. As much as people tell you not to let them bother you, bad reviews hurt. We authors put our hearts and soul into our writing, so of course it's going to suck when someone says they hate our stories.

To be honest, I still haven't fully overcome this hurdle, but thanks to the people who DO love reading my books, the bad reviews don't hurt as much anymore.(less)
