Only books at one time or another banned / forbidden by a goverment or the church, even though now they are fully accepted and well-read novels, often considered to be classics.
NOTE: When you add books to this Listopia, please, DO MENTIONED WHERE AND WHEN THE BOOK WAS FORBIDDEN ORIGINALLY. If I can't find a reference of the book being banned somewhere, at one time or another, I'll removed the titles added.

On Wikipedia there is a List of books banned by governments. There are also Dutch sites mentioning 'forbidden books', as a couple of Dutch newspapers started publishing once forbidden, but now often classic, books (for example the De Volkskrant start Verboden Boeken-reeks). Or try the Dutch Verboden boeken index, which contains books by several internationally known authors. Also, there is Banned books 2011, and so on. And I'm sure there are many more lists. If and when you add a book to this Listopia, please, do mention the link for the webpage where you found the book mentioned as banned/forbidden. Thanks!

I know that there have been some books forbidden in Finland but there doesn't seem to be a proper list online. Probably because there were too many of them and it was pretty random, I think... It happened mainly after WWII when the Allied Control Commission demanded that all anti-Soviet books should be withdrawn from circulation. Of course that included also all books that criticized Soviet actions, like Waltari's "The Truth about Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania" that is concidered to be an accurate account even by today's standards. It also affected maps and history and geography text books. In schools students had to glue pages together or in some other ways do their own sensoring...
I very much doubt if the current no. 1 Forbidden Trouble by Travis Casey was actually forbidden by government or church at one time or another, as I can't find anything relating to this. So unless someone will mention the link where to find the info, I will remove this book shortly....
I think you can delete it. It's probably should be forbidden for bad writing and spamming but otherwise...P.S. I'm not exactly sure was Tintin actually forbidden or just not published... "General reasons" was often referred to when something was thought to be anti-Soviet. The public and publishers understood what it meant, so they weren't exactly forbidden. It was the time of the Cold War after all and Finland has a long border with Russia.
Tytti wrote: "I think you can delete it. It's probably should be forbidden for bad writing and spamming but otherwise..."I'll give it a little while, just in case someone responds, but after that I will delete it... I agree though, I think someone has been spamming.
Booklovinglady wrote: "Tytti wrote: "P.S. I'm not exactly sure was Tintin actually forbidden or just not published"Did you notice what I added? It has that reputation that it was banned but there is no real information (and it wasn't even available to be republished until decades later). As I said, there were "general reasons"...
I also wonder whether The Stud was banned anywhere. Her first novel was but other than that...
Tytti wrote: "I also wonder whether The Stud was banned anywhere.."The Aussies banned The stud in 1969. Probably a bit too explicit for them in those days :-)
And yes, I did see the book you added (Juhannustanssit ). As long as you are sure it was once banned, it should be okay. Still, more info would be nice...
Booklovinglady wrote: "As long as you are sure it was once banned, it should be okay. Still, more info would be nice..."I was talking about Tintin that I already deleted. Juhannustanssit was sensored, there was a trial and all but that book wasn't anti-Soviet (more like anti-White I believe...), the whole book wasn't exactly banned. You can take it off.
Tytti wrote: "Juhannustanssit was sensored, there was a trial and all but that book wasn't anti-Soviet (more like anti-White I believe...), the whole book wasn't exactly banned. You can take it off. ..."Done... :-)
Deleted for spamming/never being banned: Forbidden Trouble by Travis Casey. Please, people, do read the requirements before adding a book...
@LauraHow sure are you about some of the books you've added being banned/forbidden at one time or another? Could you send me the links to show they were once forbidden/banned somewhere, as I can't seem to find any info myself... Thanks.
@IrisYou voted for The Scarlet Letter, saying 'It's vivid and hypnotizing'. But that in itself is no reason to put it on the list. Could you please let me know where and when it was forbidden? Thanks.
Info on some of the books added by others:* Candide by Voltaire : to be found on Verboden boeken index
* Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler : to be found on Verboden boeken index
* The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov : to be found on Verboden boeken index
* The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck to be found on 20 banned books that may surprise you

Anyone can add books to this list.
