"I saw a glint of amusement in his eyes. “‘Crazy’ is a term that’s used incorrectly and far too often. It’s also used with stigma and finality.” He tapped his head. “We’re all chemicals, Adrian. Our bodies, our brains. It’s a simple yet vastly sophisticated system, and every so often, something goes awry. A cell mutation. A neuron misfiring. A lack of a neurotransmitter.”" — Jun 16, 2021 06:32AM

“1975 had been declared by the UN as a Women's Year, and in Iceland women were determined to make it count. A committee was set up with representatives from Iceland's five biggest women's organisations. After some discussion they came up with the idea of a strike. Let the men of Iceland see how they coped without the invisible work women did every day to keep the country moving.”

“It's always amazing to me how the people who fearmonger about modern medicine negatively affecting the menstrual cycle are usually promoting some type of unstudied supplement or botanical. Then again, fears about fertility are a big business. Also, these people seem to believe suffering is acceptable, and maybe even necessary, in the quest for mythical menstrual purity.”

“When it comes to painful periods, there is an epidemic of undertreatment. Women's pain is undertreated in general, as compared to men's, but painful periods have historically been seen as a "woman thing" and hence unimportant. Our patriarchal system has dismissed menstrual pain as both exaggerated and a sign of weakness, and at times, perversely, as something women deserve (punishment for "original sin," I suppose).”

“I’m here. I had the world in my palm, and I found it wanting. I’m a greedy creature, Priya. I came here for you. There is a flower in my heart, and it grew for you.”

“What does it matter,” Malini said, her voice splintering. “If I don’t
have you? If you are gone where I cannot see you or feel you or dream
you again, then what is any of it worth to me?”
