فينزغ له ما يسميه سارتر mauvais foi، وهو لونٌ من خداع النفس يُزَين له العبودية والاستسلام، والتخلص من عبء الحرية باعتباره مُسَيَّرًا غير مُخيَّر، وضحية قُوًى بيولوجية وتاريخية واجتماعية حتمية قاهرة ليس له بها يد، وكأنه مجرد «شيء» من الأشياء أو «موضوع» من الموضوعات.
لا جدوى رغم ذلك من محاولة الهروب من الحرية؛ فالإنسان «محكومٌ عليه بالحرية»، يمارسها بواسطة اختيارات عليه أن يجترحَها كل لحظة؛ فالاختيارُ محتوم، وحتى عدم الاختيار هو نوعٌ من الاختيار أو هو اختيارٌ مُقنَّع.
