“فبقوة العلم والنطق والفهم يُضارع المَلَكَ، وبقوة الأكل والشرب والشهوة والنكاح والغضب يُشبه الحيوان. فمن صرف همته كُلَّهَا إلى تربية القوة الفكرية بالعلم والعمل، فقد لحق بأفق المَلَك، فيسمى: ملكًا وربانيًّا، كما قال تعالى: إِنْ هَـٰذَا إِلَّا مَلَكٌ كَرِيمٌ، ومن صرف همته كلها إلى تربية القوة الشهوانية باتباع اللذات البدنية، يأكل كما تأكل الأنعام، فحقيق أن يُلحق بالبهايم، إمَّا غمرًا كثور، أو شرهًا كخنزير، أو عقورًا ككلب، أو حقودًا كجمل، أو متكبرًا كنمر، أو ذا حيلة ومكر كثعلب، أو يجمع ذلك كله فيصير كشيطان مريد، وإلى ذلك الإشارة بقوله تعالى: وَجَعَلَ مِنْهُمُ الْقِرَدَةَ وَالْخَنَازِيرَ وَعَبَدَ الطَّاغُوتَ، وقد يكون كثير من الناس مَن صورته صورة إنسان، وليس في الحقيقة إلا كبعض الحيوان؛ قال الله تعالى: إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا كَالْأَنْعَامِ بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ.”
