Please, authors, PLEASE: do a damn continuity-editing pass! Nothing takes me out of the story more than a series of tiny inconsistencies 😭

Dipping my toes in this series for the second time ... fingers crossed!

I don't know when Noah started learning my habits or why I allow it" Uh, I don't know either since this is not just the first time you've had tea together, but the first time he's been alone with you that he wasn't locked in a sterile room or relegated to the guest room.

Sigh. This is about to be my second DNF from this author. Lesson learned.

Wait, what? 😂 "Most people avoid eye contact with me the moment they understand what I am." - - - But you're a serial killer who's never been caught? Who are these "most people" when literally everyone but Noah thinks you're the kind-hearted celebrity veterinarian???

This author seems to keep forgetting she's writing in first person. Either that or everyone is psychic? Because somehow, both MCs are able to articulate the motivation and meaning behind each other's actions for the reader, despite having just met... smh. But they did save the puppies? So there's that.

I realized after I downloaded this that the author had been a DNF for me when I tried another dark romance of hers. Re-reading my review of that other one almost made me give up on this one before I start. 😬 But... puppies! 😍 Fingers crossed that this one is a more satisfying read. I'm going in!

Hmmm... it's fun so far, but I'm a little concerned that there are no real *feelings* between them yet (Marc's interest still being framed entirely in covetousness at this point). But worse is the ongoing attempt at an on-page British accent/slang for him.That's starting to get really old, really fast, and honestly sounds like caricature compared to the actual London-based Brits I know. 😐

This is cute. And I will always love this author... but I have to say, it's a totally different vibe from her historical (if that's the right word?) vampires. I'm sticking with it because, lol, I'm not sure why. Maybe more like why not? 😂 But it's almost *too* fluffy for me. Not a lot of substance and very, idk, middle-school feeling? And not just because of the truth or dare...

I was a little leery about grabbing this one, despite the fun premise, because I already know the author's writing style doesn't really work for me. And now here we are about halfway in. And I'm torn. The story *is* fun. Julian's eidetic memory and clearly neurodivergent brain are fun. The Eldritch monsters are fun. The writing itself is stilted and NOT fun, as I've always found from this author. Sigh.

Is this fun so far? Yes. But is Julian's instant deduction of the meaning of the book a little too... astute? Also yes 🫤

These boys... Jesus Christ. On the one hand, there's so much fucking pain in their hearts it hurts to read. On the other... They're babies. The fact that they're doing the work and have each other to love while they go through it makes me both weirdly happy for them and also so, so sad that IRL so many people are in equally shitty situations whilst feeling much more alone 💔

Like so many romance readers, I really don't care for MCs sleeping with non LIs on-page. I'm strangely ok with it in this case because it really does fit with how they still perceive each other as literal brothers vs... more. I mean, I *did* hope one or the other would stop the other, but since that didn't happen and they're so completely, obviously devoted to each other, waiting for the moment it all changes is FUN!

This book is completely extra and absolutely ridiculous, but I'm having fun with it and am totally willing to suspend some disbelief and just go along for the ride... buuuuuuuuut putting makeup over a 2-day-old bullet wound? Idk I've never had one. It just seems like it might take a *little* longer to be ready for that, though 😳🤣🤷‍♀️

I love so very, very many things about this book so far, and the complete absence of drama from Aiden is absolutely one of those things 🥰 There's a reason I usually avoid the brother's best friend trope, and I couldn't be happier that this author hasn't leaned into that reason at all.
