What the heck is happening here? I remember REALLY enjoying this author's books in the past, and this one sounds super fun along the same lines. But it's so damn rushed? Literally zero character development. I feel like I'm reading author's notes or a first draft 🫤

Only 18% in and this book already has two should-be-strikes against it: (spoiler incoming) MC in a sex act with someone else, and everyone-but-me's fave trope, enemies-to-lovers, which is normally an automatic nope for me. And yet here I am when I should be sleeping, literally laughing out loud and already hating tomorrow for how damn tired I'm going to be after staying up to read this all night 🤣

The writing is so good that I keep going despite being horrified, lol. I definitely prefer my psychopaths fiction-washed and I feel like I'm turning into a Gregory as I wait - in what I assume is in vain - for Sinclair to actually... turn into a (sick, twisted) romantic hero? I also REALLY want Gregory to get fed up. But I guess the anxiety-inducing fun of it is genuinely not knowing where the author is headed next.

Look, this book is super fucking disturbing, much like (but also totally different from) the other book of this author's that I read. BUT it's also hilarious and SO well written... which is all preface to: I just can't with body mutilation. Not to yuck others' yums, but NOPE. Except... I kinda get it here? And in a totally sick, twisted and yet satisfying way, the little self-growth moment from it is almost sweet.

Ohhhhhhhh Gregory 😂😂😂 Both these guys are intensely fucked up, as the blurb promises, but the writing is excellent and so engaging I can't look away. I am DESPERATE for some Sinclair POV, though!

Did I just download an EIGHT HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN PAGE BOOK by an author who left me hanging with the last one I read from him??? Yes. Yes, I did. Because apparently that's what happens when I open my Kindle looking for a quick, light read before bed ... 😂

Ok, look... I'm into this. It's almost *too* zany, and definitely over the top, but I'm having fun. But I still can't help cringing a little as I remind myself that I'm here to enjoy the fictional ridiculousness, not to call out the fact that River is COMPLETELY sexually harassing Kai in the workplace in a way that would be incredibly uncomfortable if Kai wasn't secretly into it because it's all just a story. Yikes!

Like, seriously... the font size on my Kindle is set pretty small and still, I keep having to swipe through 5 or 6 pages (!!!) between one line of dialogue and the next! If I *wasn't* skimming past all the filler, there's no effing way I'd be able to follow the actual conversation 🙄

Am I enjoying this sequel? Yes. But am I also skimming past pages and pages and pages of Jax's internalized self-flaggelation, which slows down the pacing and adds nothing to the actual story? Also yes.

I'm at the end of the sample I downloaded and unsure if I want to a( buy the book and finish reading, b) go start the series from the beginning despite that blurb not being as interesting to me as this one, but knowing the stories are all interrelated, or c) just move in to something else ... 🤔🤔🤔

This author seems to keep forgetting she's writing in first person. Either that or everyone is psychic? Because somehow, both MCs are able to articulate the motivation and meaning behind each other's actions for the reader, despite having just met... smh. But they did save the puppies? So there's that.
