Despite the massively traumatic backstory/worldbuilding, despite the awkward writing voice, I was really into this one. But ngl... my commitment is weakening the lomger Eliano keeps his silence about everything that happened on the mainland. So far, that just feels COMPLETELY contrived, given how he feels about Salt. (Even accounting for the I-won't-spoil-it person whose wishes Eliano is respecting.) #notahappyreader

Salt really is an asshole and would be so easy to dislike, but IMHO the author has written him well - despite the ongoing awkwardness of the non-native-English cadence to the storytelling - and while my heart goes out to Eliano for having to put up with Salt's abrasiveness and the cruel ignorance of some of his comments, I don't hate Salt for it and am definitely rooting for the two of them!

Coercion and abuse... this "medical exam" is pissing me off, which I suppose means kudos to the author as that's the whole point. Prisoners really have no rights, but I suppose in the context of this story, at least Salt has Eliano.

I'm loving the surprise illustrations!!

Omg 😳 So far, Fortune Candy by new-to-me author Madalyn George is an absolute delight... except for the repeated use of "member" 🤣🤣🤣 Nooooooo! Is she an m/f author by day?? No matter how cute this short is, it's definitely losing half a star for ruining their first sex scene with the 1980s-Johanna-Lindsey-flashback vocab 😂

After a disappointing read (not part of this anthology), I popped back into Candy Hearts for a quick pick me up... and so far - one chapter into David Gray's Alexander and the Meet-Cute Potion - I'm thinking this short will be *exactly* what I needed. 🤣

Angel Kisses by Evie McGlynn - ch 7 is feeling like a little too much instalove even for me, especially with Charlie's friend pushing him to stay with Hunter overnight for safety on the day they first met?? But it's a short story and it's got an overprotective marshmallow military guy, a massive size difference, a psycho ex, and a nerdy little sweetheart. In other words, catnip - so I'll forgive it 🤣

Just getting started and I am **so** happy the publisher included blurbs for every story!! They're definitely not all for me, but I appreciate being able to tell up front instead of having to go in blind... and there are a few that look super cute! 🥰

I didn't realize when I downloaded this that it's related to a series I'd given up on due to the characters being so unlikeable, but turns out it is - and surprise surprise, I'm finding Will extremely unlikeable, too. Yes, he's hurting, angry, and going through big feelings. I get that. But he's still written so... unlikeably, lol. It's short, so I'll probably finish, but clearly this author isn't a good fit for me.

I'm almost halfway through this book and I swear both MCs have either been sad or stressed out for basically the entire story so far. It's definitely not giving the fated mates' vibe I came for, and I don't think this is an author I'll want more from. Still, I'm not throwing in the towel yet, because I want a cute (shifter) octopus-shifter scene!!

Not sure how I'm feeling about this one. I grabbed it because, after seeing some rave reviews on my feed, I realized it was by an author who wrote another book I absolutely LOVED (The Mercenary & the Mortician). But no matter how interesting the plot, I'm always here for the romance, and so far... eh. This one is feeling like work to read, vs sucking me in and immersing me in the story. I... might take a break.

Whiplash moment that's taking me out of an otherwise enjoyable story: up u til now, it's been "I can't have him because losing control is too risky," but now suddenly it's just "I'm not worthy"...? Ugh, author: pick your character's motivation and stick to it, please! 🙄

I love this author and absolutely adored her barbarian series, so to say I've been looking forward to this spinoff series is an understatement. I think I literally squeed when I saw that Book 1 was out. But... so far I'm not feeling it. Orthorr's initial resistance felt like a seen-it-a-million-times tired take on contrived conflict, and Cedric, so far, is the blandest character to ever bland. Honestly? I'm bored. :(

Having just DNF'd a Mafia book for the shitty quality of writing, I'm not even done with the prologue and am already not impressed with this one, either. Here's hoping this new-to-me author will surprise me by sucking me into a fun story despite the clunky, amateur writing style!

My feelings rn are so conflicted. I love this book far more than I expected to, want all the good things for Eden, but ... am really kinda pissed at how obliviously hurtful to the people he loves Charlie can be.

Pet peeve: authors whose editors let them use "blonde" for male characters. #nitpickinggrammarftw
