Delete any non bottom line tasks from your day. Remove apps that distract you on personal phone. Only calls or texts from important people on personal phone.

Remove work email notifications. Remove audio notifications.

Say no more often. Say no to calls, reply back quickly but say not or push things off. Build your dam.

Encouraged you to write out all of these things you do in a workday.

I feel a profound connection to this book already. I believe it is speaking directly to me.

People have turned in to workaholics, proud of their singular identity that is “I am a hard worker”

This leads me to think about the many other ways people would want to be remembered outside being a “hard worker”

Parenthood, fitness, passions, pastimes, hobbies, personal identity

Our work is how we began to see ourselves. We spend most of our time selling ourselves to these job. Our own identity becomes our work. We sell ourselves souls for the increasing pay of a sales job. When do you call it enough? Where do you draw the line of how much time you are spending at this tertiary importance (family, friends, job)

Those who have to work harder for their lives learn to appreciate them more. They go further. If you are given everything, there is no appreciation for how it was earned.

You have to view yourself as amazing to get amazing results. Self esteem and those who believe in themselves are a core foundation to achieving great things.

You will find the good if you look for it. You will find the bad if you look for it

The most important person in the world is you. You have to be able to get along with yourself.

You change your future by changing your thinking. You change your thinking by changing what you consume.

You work for yourself no matter who is signing the check. Job security is created by you and your own efforts. If you go above and beyond, you are impossible to get rid of

Serious goal high- and have self belief you can complete them. The flea only jumps as high as he think he can. When in reality there is no ceiling.

Happiness is now. You have to learn to be happy without conditions.

“I will be happy when…” is no way to live life. Tomorrow never comes. You only will ever live today

Goals have to be laid out and purposeful. They have to be committed to fully. The highest performers create the script and stick it to. They eek out just a little more than their counterparts every day. Minutes matter.

Read pages 55-76 to go over the steps to create goals and more important commit to them.

Discipline beats motivation. Motivation dies

When making goals- write down everything. Go big. Be realistic but go big.

Go as far as you can see, when you get there you will see further.

Share all things you need to do for these goals. Focus on only a few at a time. Dig deep on those few instead of being distracted by too many

Happiness is a choice. Setting goals and thinking happiness is conditional upon finishing them is foolish. It’s not when and where, it’s about now. I’m happy now where I’m at.

Doing things to improve and shooting for the stars is less dangerous that not doing things at all. A farmer if he plants could fail, but it’s far more dangerous to not plant at all. Take the “risk” and go do what you believe in

Ask questions of those you want to do things- do not order them. How can we make this better? This process you just enacted, where do you think it’s weakness is?

Compliment those when giving negative news- people want to feel their efforts were recognized.

Dogs learn by positive feedback- so do humans. Genuinely take interest in people’s successes around you. Even at their faults, applaud them for the positives

Correct with compliments, not by coming down on others. Replace the word “but” with “and” to encourage others to improve.

When you want an outcome, guide them to the answer. Do not tell them not to smoke, give them your own anecdote with the negative of smoking

Speak in terms that others would want for themselves. An example would be “we wouldn’t want our kids to fall behind in school now” to get a parent to parent better. If you cannot sell the desire you want- sell the desire they want.

People want to succeed, it makes them feel important. Offer challenges for people to attack to get them to perform better

I do appreciate the overall message, but the repeated examples of random everyday people don’t relay the message to me in a way I resonate with.

I do appreciate the topics- Let others assist you by giving their ideas.

Also, truly put yourself in other people’s shoes. Would you react that way? All people are most likely justified in their thoughts based on their experiences

The last few chapters were boring. Talked about being nice to people first, getting them to say yes twice. The more you can agree on with someone, the closer they are to taking your side.

I did appreciate the section on talk less. The chapters were just repetitive with simple stories. Good lesson to remember in letting others talk.

Do not point out when others are wrong- judge them on what principles they have for themselves. They may view something differently than you.

If you did something wrong, apologize quickly. Accept fault and mercy will be given.

Typically the winner of an argument, is not a winner at all. Pointing out others are wrong, even if correct will only create disdain and embarrassment. It is better to acknowledge and applaud good thought process than to wholeheartedly disagree

I appreciated the simplicity of the recent pages. In short- always smile as you do not know who needs it in their life. Call people by their name often- as that is their favorite word. Listen far more than you speak. People love to talk about themselves.
Most importantly- take genuine interest in others. Compliment with purpose. Ask to understand. Be excited about what others are excited about

Lots of examples of people thinkng of what others want around them first to obtain what they want.

Introduces the idea of how important being genuine and taking a true interest in others is

The author talks about a few things- appreciation of others being the first. To ensure you are continually letting people know of how well they are doing.

Think about what people are trying to achieve with their actions, they are all trying to satisfy something within themselves. Making up for some inadequacy.

Be sincere with compliments, and think about what they want. Not what you want. What they want is key

He introduces the “feeling of importance”
Everyone is seeking this feeling. The feeling is brought up to everyone differently. I think of the languages of love as a common simple feeling of importance for people.
