"There were many things in Misao's heart that he could not confront directly. Among those things were his despair and his hopes. Anything that might upset the delicate balance inside him, he shut away behind a poorly-fitted door. It was only when he'd discovered that technique as a child that Misao had been able to stop crying."
I love this... it's beautiful and fits so well with the way I/some of my characters cope

Did it just ignore my last status update? So confused.... anyway just saying that it's much slower of a read than I thought it would be, or I'm slower reading it at least, and I'm waiting till the end to see if several theories I have are right.

Sounds like I'm far but I'm not since 22 pages were an author note. This is interesting so far. The POV is very methodical; describes everything in short sentences. The plot isn't moving forward fast due to that, however the style is intriguing. I LOVE that the MC is clearly bad ass but the cops aren't made to be incompetent to MAKE him bad ass. So many books don't let people be good at their jobs so the MC can strut

"When they finally travel here after we've survived the end, will they say I'm worthy to be with them or leave me here alone, a survivor of humanity but an outcast of its successor?" <-- I thought that was a really cool line

I'm really not sure who I'm supposed to be rooting for in this book so far... but what's interesting is that despite the really terrible things happening, I don't actually hate anyone. It's interesting to see the different perspectives. But yeah, still not sure who to root for lol It's interesting to read with no idea where this is going so I'm avoiding spoilers or even reading the whole summary...

I always get so happy when I discover that an author of a book or series I like also has a nerdy anime/fanfiction or roleplaying past.

"Do you... do you love her?"

He glared at her, disgusted. "Don't try to push your swoony psychodrama on me. I'm sworn to protect her. Can't very well do that from down here, can I?"

LOLLLLL. That right there is a prime example (of many) of why I love this series so much XD

I need a book to buy a family member. She likes true crime and murder mystery-type books but I don't know what all books she's read. Anyone have recs for a good book in that genre or close to that genre that isn't commonly known so she might not have read yet?

Goodreads keeps randomly giving me the last name of Ais, so I'll comment on things and suddenly I'm Ais Ais instead of just Ais. Please stop it, GR. I'm already weird enough on my own. I don't need your help. But A+ on effort, there.

Damn you Special Forces.

People keep telling me how much they love the series and that my general avoidance of all war-time stories need not apply. It's making me curious.

But I don't want to start! Because this is NaNo month and if I like it I'll get obsessed. I don't have time for that now. But SF keeps coming up-- and more and more lately I keep going, "HMM. But what if I...?"

NO. YOU MAY NOT.

...So. I just realized. 4 of the books I'm currently reading have death/dead/murder in the title. Almost all of the others are of Japanese origin. Then let's consider I love Shinigami in any form and Duo was my favorite GW pilot + Deathscythe Hell was the best Gundam HANDS DOWN JUST SAYIN. I'm sensing a pattern here, and I'm not quite sure what it says...

All these fancytimes animated book ads on the side make me want to make some for myself, just because. Some would be jokes, some serious. The people have to figure it out!

For a second I thought Cress (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...) was out and then I saw it isn't, and now I'm kind of sad. Booklover problems.

Ais is starting The Invention of Murder: How the Victorians Revelled in Death and Detection and Created Modern Crime
Bought this book in a small town bookstore when I read the opening line, a quote from Thomas de Quincey: "pleasant it is, no doubt, to drink tea with your sweetheart, but most disagreeable to find her bubbling in the tea-urn." And the author's comment: "it reinforces a sense of safety, even of pleasure, to know that murder is possible, just not here." Fascinating topic IMO.

This is a book I bought based on Whitley's (only) 5 star review on her blog I love, readingwithavengeance.tumblr.com. I'm not far into it but I like what I've read. She said it's best seeing it as a myth or fairy tale and I really like reading it that way.

I like Jo Beverley's story so far; might have to check out more by her. I feel bad saying it but the Dresden story by Butcher combined with the latest book reinforced to me that I might eventually have to stop reading those books, and just wait for the end of the series and read a summary of what happened. I like Harry but the way women are dealt with, especially Murphy and Molly now, is really starting to bug me.

Sometimes I dismiss het/gen books partially into the summary for a specific reason (like, "sounds too trite"), but simply change the couple to m/m or f/f and suddenly I think, "I'll give that a chance. Could be good." I've done this with books, manga, fics... wtf, self?

Does anyone use the nook glowlight? Nooks are on sale this week and I broke mine so I want a new one. I don't know which one is best. Sounds like glowlight has an easily torn screen and problems with getting it replaced so I'm wondering if anyone uses/likes it. Or what ereader do you recommend? I'm more of a nook than kindle person but I'm open to feedback on any ereader.

I've been debating starting a separate author-type blog where I could post snippets of writing (or full oneshots), do Q&A on characters if wanted, show research on interesting topics, and possibly do other things as well. Just curious if anyone would be interested if I did. I'm lazy so I won't bother if it wouldn't be useful or interesting to anyone. And PS: it won't hurt my feelings if you say you wouldn't be :)

This is an interesting article from 2011 that talks about the different thought process between "bright girls" and "bright boys" and why these bright girls might give up early on something they COULD achieve: http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/t... It's interesting to consider when in context of my own life. That's exactly what I do to myself.

I love people who are good people, full stop. Genuine and honest. Who think of others as much as/more than they think of themselves. I always feel so much better about the world when I encounter them. Like humanity has something going for it after all, and a sense of relief that I can relax around them and not feel judged. To all the lovely people in the world, thank you for existing. I love you and wish you the best
