For Heidegger, hermeneutics was the kind of interpretation that listened for an important message or announcement of crucial importance...I want to know my ‘fate’, that is, what these texts and actions mean to me. Interpretation, in other words, is intrinsically guided by my present concerns, by the desire to hear an announcement that pertains to my own situation.
