Protagonist: Wait, I was told NOT to go past the garden.

Me: Exactly. So, why don't you—

Protagonist: I should turn back.

Me: YES. Wow, my characters are actually listening to me for once. How did I—

*Protagonist thinks a little more*

Me: NO. NO. NO. I did not approve of you thinking right now!!!! LISTEN TO ME. STOP THINKING.

Protagonist: I must continue forward!

Me: STOP—

Protagonist: SIDE QUEST.

Me: WHAT?! NO!! NO SIDE QUEST. I DID NOT APPROVE OF THIS SIDE QUEST.

Protagonist: Yes, I must.

Me: Listen, if you just turn around, I'll give you EVEN MORE tarts to eat in this book!!

Protagonist: I just thought of tarts for some reason. Ohhh, yes, I will find berries for tarts in the forest!!

Me: *facepalm*

(I gave up at that point.)

HAHAHAHA!!!!!
Oh, I know the experience VERY well. I shall have to consider tart bribery next time!

But yes, I live near foxes, who can sometimes sound like tiny forest wolves and can sometimes sound like a hungry abandoned baby crying, so I have learned not to bolt out after strange sounds coming from the forest.

Still hop in faerie rings when I find them, though.

Gina Marinello-Sweeney Hehehe glad you enjoyed it! I couldn't resist adding to your amusing dialogue. :)

YESS, I highly recommend tart bribery. If that doesn't work, consider cake or various forms of chocolate. The chance of your characters listening to you increases greatly after employing these methods, but obedience can never be fully guaranteed. ;) They tend to have minds of their own!

Oh, wow! I have pretty much no experience with foxes out in the wild, so thank you for sharing this. I found it to be quite interesting. Ahh, yeah, that definitely makes sense.

Hehehe but of course!
