@Megan, I KNOW. It's the little small mercies though, especially considering how Head Above Water is over 400 pages... I hate myself when it comes to literature but not *that* much! The writing was actually my favorite thing in this (at least Cal as a narrator). Everything else... I was not a fan of.

@Len, sure why not 😙 and yes... or at least I'm strongly implying it. For me the love interests tend to be super unlikable until the last stretch. The one from this book just never pulled through 🗿

and that’s unfortunate. i love character development but not until the end. you gotta give me that slow transition that shows their changes. ugh, now i’m worried. 😂

I hated this one. Stopped reading after hitting the 55% mark or so..

@len, I mean the transition is slow... so slow that it happens around the 80-90% mark!! I would recommend you to skip but then again, I'm the fool re-reading.

maybe i'll do that with book three of this series. i was VERY meh on that one. i have high hopes for book four though …

@Julia, sameeee. I never rated book two and three since I never reviewed them in the first place. But while book one I loathed and book two I liked, book three really left me 😐😑😶 which is even worse.

(For real though, if you haven't I would much rather you read Head Above Water. Because chances you'll enjoy that one are 0.00001 😌)

Ohhh you read it? I need to go digging for your review. I’m definitely the odd one out about this book, but one of the MCs was likable to me in a later book in the series so I’ve contemplated re-reading. That and there’s a part 2 coming and I have FOMO 😂 I did write a very short review.

I can see why Ilya (I'm guessing you're talking about him?) might not be your favorite though. It sound like he's 282828 more in love in the sequels though.

The glaring 1 star by your name didn’t raise any alarms whatsoever 😉 I think I’m most well-known for my star generosity (now I tell people to take my 3.5* ratings as 3* or below for the Average Joe lol), so you know it’s a MAJOR flop when I go so far as to rate something two stars or *gasp* one!

Omg what if I end up falling in lurve with this one? Imagine our pained banter 🤣 But at least you have no need to fear re: Head Above Water, I read it when it first came out and it earned a hearty 1.5-star rating from me! The fact that we both don’t dnf either meant we had to suffer through the whole gosh darn thing, I still want my time back 🙃
