Felipe Arraño In 86 Romans, Sulla, breached Athens’ walls and entered the city (p. 250). By the following year, Athens meekly accepted the re-instatement of the pro-Roman oligarchy even though it was still nominally a free city, not part of a Roman province or a provincial governor’s sway (p. 251).
