On March 1821 Greece started fighting for their independence from the Turks, in particular, in the Peloponnese (p. 300). Disagreements among the Greek insurgents was fierce, even reaching a civil war, affecting the independence war (p. 301). Western superpowers drew up the Treaty of London, according to which Greece would become a quasi-independent tributary of Turkey, treaty that was rejected bu the Turks (p. 303). Negotiations were fruitless but cutting the supply route from Egypt (without military action) led the Empire to prepare for battle, they made a mistake and lost the battle (p. 303). Russia, Britain and France became the Protecting Powers of Greece, dictating its immediate future (p. 303). On 31 March 1833 the Turks abandoned the Akropolis (p. 304).
