Samuel Johnson and Denis Diderot are both unrecognized as 18th century authors. I don't think these restriction filters work very well.

The restriction filters definitely do not work very well. There have been several books I have been unable to add to the decades lists, that I KNOW were first published in the decade in question.
... or century, for that matter -- and it gets even worse the farther back you go in history. Try adding Ben Jonson to the 16th and 17th century lists ... or Christine de Pizan to 15th century! Or Mary Wollstonecraft to this list, of course -- essentially any book where the "first published" notation on the respective book's page doesn't refer to the book's own/ real year of initial publication but the year of the first publication of the text edition in question.That said, maybe this is in the process of being fixed, though. I was able to add an edition of Johnson's dictionary, as well as one book by Diderot.
I try to correct original publication dates when I see one that's way out of wack.
You have to be a Goodreads librarian to be able to do that, don't you? I realize of course that, with books being added to the database daily, this is probably a never ending task ...

Faust Part One wasn't published until 1806.
William Bartram's Travels Through North and South Carolina (1791) and Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible (1710)were published in the 1700s, but can't be voted on. Thanks!

Great list. I was surprised to see that these books were overlooked:
1. "Justine" by the Marquis de Sade, 1791, and "Philosophy in the Bedroom", 1795. I understood that Nietzsche found these works enlightening and influential, so I read them too. At the very least, the female protagonists are like no others in 18th C lit.
and...
2. "The Fable of the Bees" by Bernard Mandeville, 1714
3. "De l'esprit (On Mind)" by Claude Adrien Helvétius, 1758
You could, of course, add them yourself. (You add them at the top of the list, at the tab next to "all votes.")
"the 18th century (January 1st, 1701 through December 31st 1800)."...Couldn't it just be 1/1/1700 to 12/31/1799 as a concession to common sense? I'm aware of the tiresome argument that there was not a year zero, therefore counting begins with 1 etc. etc. etc. But it's pedantic to cling to that technicality, in my view. For example, to claim the 90s ended on 12/31/2000, and that the 21st century started 1/1/2001, while perhaps technically true, is patently absurd as a practical matter. OK I'll get off the soapbox now :-)
