The vast, vast majority of Genre romance still have overwhelmingly white, Christian, able bodied, and/or heterosexual protagonists. These books can be amazing! But they can get boring, and this list is for myself and others to find genre romances with people more like ourselves.
Qualifications for the List:
-Must be a Genre Romance such as Fantasy, Science Fiction. Historical - Not a Contemporary Romance. A romance will be defined as a story in which the romantic relationship drives the plot and has a happy ending.
-One or both protagonists of the romance must be a Person of Color, and/or LGBTQA, and/or disabled, and/or non-Christian.
-Must be Real-Life diversity. Fantasy Religions like the Seven Gods and races such as fairies, vampires or trolls need not apply, But a Blind character who worships the fantasy religion or an Asian vampire or a cyborg who is Jewish does. While Asian or Indigenous or African-American cultures as we know them may or may not exist in the setting, you can have characters "coded" as Asian or Black in a setting and that is more than welcome. Example: Drow, no, Redgaurd, yes.
A note on modern Wicca/Paganism: This is kind of a grey area, especially in historical or fantasy novels so use your best judgement . Please remember that for many people around the world Wicca and Paganism is their faith and it is often misrepresented in media as a "fantasy religion" and not real, so please be sensitive to that.
