Yasmin Mogahed
“So often we experience things in life, and yet never see the connections between them. When we are given hardship, or feel pain, we often fail to consider that the experience may be the direct cause or result of another action or experience. Sometimes we fail to recognize the direct connection between the pain in our lives and our relationship with Allah SWT”

“Awakening to faith is not a one-time event, but a continuously unfolding reality. The journey of faith is not a race, but a marathon of love that each person walks at a different pace.”

“I ran across an excerpt today (in English translation) of some dialogue/narration from the modern popular writer, Paulo Coelho in his book: Aleph.(Note: bracketed text is mine.)... 'I spoke to three scholars,' [the character says 'at last.'] ...two of them said that, after death, the [sic (misprint, fault of the publisher)] just go to Paradise. The third one, though, told me to consult some verses from the Koran. [end quote]' ...I can see that he's excited. [narrator]' ...Now I have many positive things to say about Coelho: He is respectable, inspiring as a man, a truth-seeker, and an appealing writer; but one should hesitate to call him a 'literary' writer based on this quote. A 'literary' author knows that a character's excitement should be 'shown' in his or her dialogue and not in the narrator's commentary on it. Advice for Coelho: Remove the 'I can see that he's excited' sentence and show his excitement in the phrasing of his quote.(Now, in defense of Coelho, I am firmly of the opinion, having myself written plenty of prose that is flawed, that a novelist should be forgiven for slipping here and there.)Lastly, it appears that a belief in reincarnation is of great interest to Mr. Coelho ... Just think! He is a man who has achieved, (as Leonard Cohen would call it), 'a remote human possibility.' He has won lots of fame and tons of money. And yet, how his preoccupation with reincarnation—none other than an interest in being born again as somebody else—suggests that he is not happy!”

“Words have power, which is why Imam Ali says, “Speak only when your words are more beautiful than the silence.” After all, everything in existence sprouted from the vibration of the divinely uttered word “Be! And it is” (36:82). So remember, your tongue is like a knife; it can either kill like the sword of a samurai or save like the scalpel of a surgeon.”

“God’s mercy is greater than your sins or circumstances. His compassionate love embraces the cactus parts of you that you swear no one could hug. His grace celebrates the parts of you that nobody claps for. God loved you before you were even created, before you even knew of Him. As the Qur’an says, “It is He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers, that they may add faith to their faith for to Allah belong the forces of the heavens and the Earth and Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom” (48:4).”

“If money is the real solution to every problem, then why the hell wasn't our Prophet ﷺ a millionaire?

If money could truly fix every problem in our hearts, then why did our beloved Prophet ﷺ, peace be upon him, choose to live a simple and noble life instead of becoming rich like a millionaire?

This gentle wisdom teaches us that not every problem is meant to be solved by wealth, but by good character, strong faith, and a clear purpose in life.”

“Eid ul-Adha is not only about sacrificing an animal. Before sacrificing the animal, we must first put the knife to our pride, selfishness, and ego, and slaughter the negative desires and animal living inside our hearts, minds, thoughts, and personalities.
Only then can we achieve the true meaning of Eid ul-Adha. May Allah accept all our good deeds and sacrifices.”

“Islamophobes, attention please:
For your information, around 30–40 million animals are slaughtered globally during Eid ul-Adha. Yet throughout the rest of the year, an estimated 1–3 trillion animals are slaughtered annually for:
• food production
• leather and clothing
• medicine and research
• cosmetics testing
• pet food
• industrial products
So don’t pretend your outrage is about animal welfare. Your selective criticism only exposes hatred and hypocrisy Nothing more.”
