The writing improved. Now, I want to keep reading to see whether my suspicions about the rogue wolf are correct.

Not sure whether I can stick with this book if it doesn't get better. So far, every character is underdeveloped and the plot is thin and vague. Hopefully, that will change soon.

This is moving too slowly to hold my interest. Also, attempts at building suspense/mystery are too vague or confusing.

More sex than plot. DNF

I hate sloppy writers!! The MMC says, "I'd known my mate since the day Lyra's father brought her to the sparring ground. She was just a fiftee-year-old ..." The very next paragraph starts with "I had known my mate my whole life ..." Then, the MMC's references to a "trunk" didn't make sense. The word misspelled 6 times was supposed to be TRUCK. And this is just the 2nd chapter. DNF at page 14.

I tried to like this book, but the writing style was painful with far too many metaphors, too many descriptors, and the overuse of a thesaurus. No one talks like that or even thinks in so many uncommon words. Plus, I wanted a shifter story. Having the MMC change into his wolf a few times but no shifter lifestyle described in all that verbosity is disappointing. DNF

I'm not enjoying this book. Everything is vague, rushed, and illogical. The author doesn't explain connections between characters and isn't good at making sure details are accurate and consistent. She even twisted up the days within a specific scene and described the college experience that's clearly undergraduate as medical school. Careless writing is a pet peeve. DNF.

Ugh! I'm listening on my Kindle. Three love scenes, practically back-to-back with almost nothing happening between them. FORTY FIVE MINUTES with very little character development and even less plot. Boring!!!! DNF

DNF. The plot is rushed, undeveloped, and stupid. Illogical timeline: MFC called at 5 a.m. to start an undefined job at 9:00, was left alone for 2 hours, but suddenly it's 1:55, MMC lunches daily 2 to 4, MFC claims work schedule is 9 to 4. How is she going to lunch at 2:00? Then MMC orders her lunch but only coffee for self? No character development, zero chemistry, unclear motives, and weak plot.

The first 37% (3 chapters) has nothing to do with cooking. Recipes start on page 111 with chapter 4. Not what I expected.

On page 241, the dragon says, "All that self-pity was getting tiresome." I agree! With less than 80 pages left, this is a DNF. It's not enjoyable to have a whiny MC who has to be dragged into any semblance of confidence. It's constantly 3 steps forward and 2 steps back, and all other characters are underdeveloped. There's nothing that makes me want to finish this book or hope book 2 will miraculously be better.

Ugh! I'm getting frustrated with the repetitive and ridiculous hesitation, fear, and self-doubt of the main character. If things don't change soon, this is going into the DNF pile despite the good world-building and interesting plot. The MC shouldn't constantly be the weakest person or stall at every opportunity to grow. It's annoying!

The book started well and held my interest. Unfortunately, the story gets bogged down and becomes boring. At 50%, the objective is still unclear, the character development is superficial, and the plot has no forward movement. Plus, the training island concept is seriously underdeveloped despite having scene after scene of the torturous indoctrination.

I can't get into this plot that seems rushed and awkward. Maybe I will retry at some future point. For now, it goes into the DNF pile.

After reading the first 2 books, this series is DNF. None of the story lines are well-developed, and the characters lack depth. We know very little except the men arrive in Hogan Falls, are trying to start a new chapter, fall in love, and get married within weeks. Chemistry and personality are superficial and rushed.

I can't take any more of this illogical plot. For an undercover operative who was tortured while in the Marines, Cruz/Lorenzo was too stupid to be believable. He repeatedly took risks to be with Lydia privately despite Emilio's jealousy, sadistic nature, and threats to them both. His effort at an escape plan lacked any sense or urgency, even after Lydia was whipped. Seriously? DNF

This is my 2nd time reading this series and 4 stars stands.

Although the storyline of this book was interesting and satisfying, about one-third (so far) was cut and pasted verbatim from previous books where Bastien appears. I can understand why revisiting those scenes is important, but the author took the disappointing lazy option. Hopefully, the remaining 29% will be new material with Ember.

I really had hoped to like this story. Unfortunately, there's more sex than plot. While this book is part of a duet, it's still disappointing when 25% of the total story basically has no movement. DNF

The plot is developing VERY slowly. We haven't been introduced to all of the main characters indicated in the blurb, and we don't have any details of what was really going on with Axel. What has been provided is very superficial with underdeveloped characters. DNF

The typos are seriously distracting! Even though I'm using the Assistive Reader function to listen, they're too obvious to ignore. What a shame because the story is unique and interesting. I do intend to keep reading unless the problem becomes unbearable.

The first 5 chapters are stuffed with the introduction of so many characters and details that it makes the audiobook difficult to follow. Since the story seems to be interesting, I will switch to the ebook version.

At 18%, there's very little story development. The primary focus seems to be on explaining the details of gymnastics training, not on a romance story between the gymnast and coach. We know almost nothing about the coach, and the female MC isn't very well developed. DNF

The first 5 chapters are rushed, underdeveloped, and illogical. We still don't know why Lottie crashed the wedding. There's no real chemistry or respect between Lottie and Hunter. The professional connection is unclear, although it's supposed to be an important part of the story. The book doesn't feel like a standalone but rather the continuation of a story where important details were in a previous book. DNF at 14%.

Ugh! Are we done yet? The characters are stupid, the plot is weak, and there are way too many unnecessary sex scenes. Such a disappointment after an interesting first book in this series.

Decent plot but sloppy writing. The jail break was completely unrealistic. Plus, a person who breaks out of jail doesn't suddenly have money to buy items for a disguise at Walmart. An injured person cannot escape from a 9th floor hospital room by breaking the window and walking away. And how does the mysterious helper always know exactly where the MC is? Dumb details ruin the story.

The first book in the series showed potential, so I decided to keep reading. But the plot for this 2nd book is just silly. DNF at 44%

Only 15% into the book, and I'm disappointed. While the intent of Mr Carter is to appear diplomatic, much of his tone reflects the paternalistic, self-righteousness of someone steeped in the privileged attitudes of colonizers. Perhaps he might not have such generous impressions of Isreal or such idealism for how the oppressed should respond if the book was written in today's climate of genocide.

The author definitely needs to take a writing class! Not knowing how to construct paragraphs and conversations, using the wrong words, and having poor punctuation are annoying and distracting. Not giving enough information from the series that's the basis for this spinoff is confusing. So is failing to fully develop characters and their relationships. Being a good storyteller isn't the same as being a good writer.

This book is disappointing. It doesn't really follow the fake marriage trope or build suspense with the threatening ex story line. Neither have been introduced by 44% and the relationship is moving along pretty slowly. DNF
