Listopia > Science Fiction Picture Books for Young Readers
In 2011 I completed a research project for a graduate class on SF. I read as many science fiction related picture books I could find. This list represents some of the books I found. Most of these are science fiction (inventions, time travel, space travel, robots, aliens, etc), some have fantasy elements (i.e. kids riding bikes to the moon sans spacesuit), and some are realistic/informational. This list includes picture books and story books only, no chapter books or early readers. Enjoy!
P.S. If you like this list and want more suggestions, check out my other sf picture book lists: sf fairy tales, featuring girls, featuring boys, with aliens, with robots, machines/inventions, space travel, and time travel.

I have been trying to find a science fiction picture book from my childhood that I would check out at the library all the time, but I can't remember the title or author. I remember it's about a spaceship taking 2 kids across the galaxy, back to Earth (they were born on the spaceship and have never seen it). The grandfather (I think) is telling them about how Earth will look and feel all throughout the book, and then at the end they finally make it there, and talk about how the gravity feels and all. It was such a wonderful book and I am so mad at myself for not remembering what it was called! Does anyone have any idea what book I'm talking about? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

That sounds like a fabulous book! If you find it, please let me know what the title is; I would love to read it. I have not come across anything exactly like the one you have described. The closest one I can think of is Grandpa Takes Me to the Moon by Timothy Gaffney, published in 1996. There are a couple online children's picture book databases you can search. You can also check early readers or chapter books (not the same as novels). It might also be listed as "non-fiction" (this has happened with a handful of the sf picture books I've read). I don't know if you've tried this yet or not, but you could search your old childhood library catalogue system if it's online. I hope this helps. Good luck with your search!
