This list is NOT for:
1. Books about companion or therapy dogs. Companion dogs change lives, save people, and do all sorts of wonderful things! They are great, but this is list is for dogs who are service dogs. There are many other awesome lists if you're looking for books about pet dogs.
2. Books about other working dogs. So no books about police dogs, search and rescue dogs, etc.
3. Books that happen to mention someone with a service dog once. Just as Harry Potter would not truly qualify as a 'snake book.'
