Alessandra I have noticed a funny pattern.

The (currently) number one book on this list, "Blood in the Skies (The Hellfire Chronicles, #1)," has eleven votes, all of them number one (i.e. it has 1100 points). Most of the people who voted for it, if you look at their voting records, have voted for very little else anywhere on GoodReads. Some of them have voted for no other book anywhere (Although most of them have voted this one book their number one choice on many, many other lists).

If you do a search on "Steampunk," this one book shows up all over Listopia, and the pattern is identical.

Okay, maybe it's a good book, but then why is it all the same people voting it their number one choice (and not voting for much else anywhere), and nobody else voting for it?

It just looks weird to me.

I believe its called spamming and its common on most all the lists if you read comments. There are some working to stop it but it seems to be about impossible. If you are a librarian delete the book.

message 4: by Rachel Adiyah (last edited Oct 04, 2018 10:00PM) (new)

Rachel Adiyah Pride and Prejudice should not be on this list. Although the time period and the culture in which the story takes place may seem imaginative and unreal to people in 2018, Jane Austen wrote the novel based on her own life and experiences as a member of an impoverished English country gentry family in the late 1790's. She was not creating an imaginative world but rather set the novel in the time and world surrounding her. It does not meet the criteria of an imaginative, unreal world.

Likewise, Hamlet is also inappropriate for this list. Hamlet is drama, not fiction; there is a literary difference. Also, Shakespeare based Hamlet on Danish precedent such as the election to determine who would become the new king after the death of the old one. This was a medieval piece of drama concocted by a member of a nation just crawling out of the middle ages.

The Great Gatsby is another bad choice. Fitzgerald wrote about the 1920's high society New York world that he loved so much, not about something unreal and creative.
