As expected, the mysterious jester flopping about in comfy orange robes, being cheerfully unhelpful, and occasionally confused with the furniture, is my favorite.

I do wonder about the protagonist being...so calm about the whole kidnapping thing, though...

Protagonist: I hear someone crying in the woods!
Me: that'd be the foxes.
Protagonist: I should follow it!
Me: ...you're new at this, aren't you.

First impressions: I love how the style imitates old folklore essays. And I love how comfortably worn the library copy feels in my hands as I read my way through gloomy cold October. This is a book many readers love.

Pliego is revealing details so tantalizingly I rather want to pick this book up and hold it upside-down, shaking it until the answers fall out of its pockets like loose change.

Actually, I love that this is a double mystery, since you're trying to identify not one but two culprits of different crimes.

oh yes totally makes sense to lift exact lines from the Christian faith for a “robot sees human as deity” story when robot is fully aware of other humans making the situation more like polytheism, breaking down the illustration, reducing it to intentional blasphemy/targeted shock value similar to excessive profanity, resurrecting my fury at the horror genre for belligerent habitual appropriation of Catholic imagery—

“Second Person Unmasked.” That was revolting. Not in a complimentary way. I’m surprised this publication allowed some of these slurs to be printed that have appeared in the first third. And that’s not even the chief issue I take with this story.

Rene Sears. I have not read your stories before, but that was…impressive.
