Connie "GREETING" HAIKU

Farewell to the fujin, artist
見送れば 墨染に成 花になり
miokureba sumizome ni nari hana ni nari
his departing image
becomes black-ink kimono
becomes cherry blossoms

Note: This is a farewell poem written for poet Kihaku (editor of Chi-yo-ni's poetry collections) in spring of 1760 on his way to Mount Yoshino, famous for cherry blossoms; as he walked away, his kimono image mingled with the cherry trees on the road.
