I am giving you a list of some books mainly in Bengali but you can obviously find them translated in other language. And I assure you, even if the translation doesn’t give you the real essence, it’s worth it.These books are so close to my heart for various reasons.

“I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skills I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in my life. And I am horribly limited.” ― Sylvia Plath, The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath
I am not going to mention those meritless books that the list includes, but definitely like to mention what gems it missed. It missed ‘chotogolpo samagra’ by Tarashankar Bandopadhyay and best two novels of entire Bengali literature viz., ‘Dhorai chorit manas’ by Satinath Bhaduri and ‘Khoabnama’ by Akhteruzzaman Elias. The list includes ‘Looking for an address, Madhukari, Women of the Tagore Household’, ‘Mad & Madder’, ‘Chowringhee’, satkahon’, ‘Shonku samagra’ excluding following which are more worthy:
Putul Nacher Itikatha – Manik Bandopadhyay
Rajnagar – Amiyo Bhushan Majumdar
Dekhi nai phire – Samaresh Basu
Gopal Dev – Asim Roy
Tista Parer Brittanto – Debesh Roy
Ghanada Samagra – Premendra Mitra
Further, if Sanchayita, Gitanjali, Nokshi Kanther Math is included then why not the following:
Sanchita- Kazi Nazrul
Rupashi Bangla – Jibananda Das
Banalata Sen – Jibananda Das
Also, Bankim Babu’s some novel Bish Brikkho/Durgeshnandini may be replaced by Kamalakanter Doptor and Krishna Choritra which are really astonishing work by Bankim Chandra.
I have no comment on popular books written by Humayun Ahmed or Jafar Iqbal as I have not yet read them and have no idea how they will change one’s life.
You may argue that the list contains only books translated into other languages. But, you must understand that most of the translated books are worthless to the context of changing one’s life (your list is full of such books including some written by fantastically gifted writer like Bankim, Rabindranath and Sharatchandra)) and most of the worthy books are never translated.
You may circulate thousands of lists as you love to, but don’t claim that they will change my life.
